How To Give A Good Speech

It doesn’t matter if you are giving a speech for that biology presentation. It also does not matter if you will be standing in front of a big or small audience. Public speaking and giving a good speech is all about challenging status quo. If you think that you cannot speak in front of people, in front of strangers, then there are ways to change it. Everybody feels a little overwhelmed when they first go on stage. Public speaking is never easy, even to those who look like they were born to speak. There are many different aspects of giving a good speech.

There are three aspects of speech:

  1. Content
  2. Non-Verbal communication
  3. Verbal communication

give a good speech

As we know, content is king. The first step to give a good speech lies in having content you believe in. If you have a content that is baseless and has no structure, you will lose the interest of your audience.

If you don’t have a content that you believe in if you can’t convince yourself, then how would you convince your audience?  The key to writing a structured contend lies in these steps

  1. Heading, beginning

The beginning of your content needs to give an overall idea of what you are about to say. You need to list out what you will be speaking about.

  1. Middle
The middle portion of your content contains all the main idea that you want to speak about. Place in facts and figures, use examples and real-life scenarios. Do everything to capture the attention of your audience. Divide the middle portion of your content into 3-4 paragraphs. In each paragraph, keep one main point and buildup on it.

Non-Verbal Communication

In this part of your speech, you need to have good body language. Your body language tells a lot about your personality.  By slouching in poor posture, you give off the vibe of being a lazy and ill-mannered person. It depicts how low your confidence is.

If you stand too tall and look at everyone in arrogance, your audience will not read into your words at all. You need to look confident stand tall, look sincere. Keep a smile on your face. When you smile, people will hold you in better regard.

Verbal Communication

Giving a speech is not an easy task. There are some tips for giving a speech so that people can understand. You need to speak clearly. You need to speak coherently. Your words need to be simple and coherent. By using difficult vocabulary, you will scare your audience away, as most of them would not understand what you have said.

To give a great speech practice in front of mirrors, your friends and anyone willing to listen to you. The more you practice and get feedback, you will find out where you were lacking and where to improve.
